~Sign With Love~
Sign Language Programs for Hearing Families
Sign With Love: Baby Sign Language is a course designed for parents, caregivers and family members with infants and toddlers. Although parents can start using signs at any time with their baby, they can expect their child to be most receptive after 6 months of age. These classes are most appropriate for children who are between 6 months and 3 years of age. Signs taught are developmentally appropriate for infants and toddlers and are based on American Sign Language (ASL).
The Baby Sign Language course is a series of 6-weekly interactive classes (45 minutes each). In each lesson, you will learn approximately 15-20 signs on a given theme (90-120 signs total in the course). Themes include: First Signs, Mealtime Signs, Bedtime Signs, Animal Signs, Playtime Signs and Dressing Signs. You will be shown how to introduce and use these signs with your child on a daily basis and the common progression of sign reproduction in children. During each class, activities are introduced to reinforce the signs and you will learn to sign a song and rhyme related to the theme of the lesson. Also, during each lesson, a recommended children’s book will be read and signed to the class. (Signing while reading books to your child is a great way to teach and reinforce the signs learned in class!).
A 3-week condensed format series is also offered. Classes are 75 minutes in length and you will learn 30-40 signs.
Fee: $90.00 for one adult and child
$25.00 for each additional adult or child
The Sign With Baby Workshop is designed exclusively for parents, caregivers and family members who are either not able to register for the six week Baby Sign Language Course OR whose babies are too young to benefit from the full series of classes at this time.
The Sign With Baby Workshop is a 60 minute fast-paced, informative and enjoyable program. During this workshop, you will learn 40-50 signs relative to daily routines and play. All signs taught are developmentally appropriate for infants and toddlers and are based on American Sign Language (ASL). Activities are introduced to reinforce the signs and you will learn to sign a song, a rhyme and a recommended children’s book.
In addition, the following questions will be answered:
v When and how should parents start using signs with their child?
v When can parents expect their child to produce signs?
v How does the use of signs effect speech and language development?
Note: The Sign With Love: Baby Sign Language Course and the Sign With Baby: Workshop for Adults use the Tiny Fingers program developed by Eileen Ladino, a sign language interpreter and certified teacher of deaf and hearing children with more than 15 years of experience.
